Keeping the Light Alive

The beauty of a Japanese patio cover lies in its roof system. Imagine how dark a solid-roof patio cover would have made this space, and how that darkness would have extended into the adjacent living room. With the polycarbonate roof system, you can be protected from rain and sun without losing light. See how neatly this very large patio roof is tucked into the corner. TFNA-15Rx30L-LiBlue

An aluminum patio cover, pre-fabricated in Japan, needs a post every 12 to 18 feet along the outside edge. For this outdoor cover, with the right side attached to the house, we could have gotten away with only two posts; however, one of those posts would've been right in the line of sight from the living room. We opted for three posts to clear the view of the beautiful Pacific Ocean.

Posts are attached with brackets and slide along a groove underneath the gutter beam. This makes positioning very easy. However, a post must be no more than about 1 foot from a connection.
