SHOWCASE PJ-Carport

The PJ carport is by far the most popular carport system worldwide.

The system offers a wide variety of options in size, combinations, and functions. Above, you see the PJR cantilever version of the system, with posts on only one side. Click on the image, if you want to see these projects in detail. For an overview of the system, you can also check out the PJ Details PDF.

When you add two PJ cantilever ports together, you get a winged carport with all the posts in the center and an unobstructed outer perimeter. A specific gutter-to-gutter connection profile ensures the cover is watertight.

This is the PJW, a 2-car-port that spans up to 20 feet across. Any individual aluminum profile has a limited length of about 19.5’ due to the fabrication process. Consequently, if you need to create a wider port, two profiles must be connected. Notice this connection when you see the triple carport below.

Click the image above to view detailed photos of the specific installation. The largest triple carport is 26 1/2 feet wide. There are other Japanese port systems, with bearing- beams that can span up to almost 40 feet. See U-Style Ports.

Any carport structure can be extended by adding one unit to another, for an unlimited depth. To create extra-large covered parking areas, one unit can also be connected side-by-side to another carport. There are specific roof-to-roof connection profiles and interior profile connectors to extend these carports seamlessly and ensure they are absolutely watertight.

This project includes two PJR cantilever carport units installed in tandem, with an additional top side-panel for enhanced protection. These side panels could potentially form a full wall extending all the way to the ground. The customer selected the clear panel to maintain his view.

Japanese aluminum carports can create covered parking spaces for condominiums and public spaces. They are very cost-effective compared to steel construction and super easy to install and maintain. In the example above, you see the KCR ports, the predecessor of the PJ ports, featuring aluminum roof panels.

The PJ Port is highly popular as a garden gazebo or deck cover, as shown in the installation above. Here, you can see the frosted heat-cut panel that offers privacy from the hillside neighborhood while allowing as much light as possible into the adjacent living room.
