Set-back Solution

Japanese style carports for a single car generally have post only on one side. This creates a cantilevered roof. Just like the eaves of a house the cantilevered edge can reach further towards the property line than a wall or post could. In most US States you will be able to cover your car up to 2.5’ towards the side property line.

To cover a parking space on the side of a house is easy with a genuine Japanese carport. This space is usually fairly narrow and when the regulations demand a 5’ set-back for any wall or post from the side property, line an aluminum carport that has posts only on one side can be the solution.
