Cover for Upper Deck

This large wood-deck upstairs has been turned into an instant outdoor living room, out in the fresh air, but protected from the sun and rain. Held up by a flexible bearing beam the curved roof can now also protect the wood banister from deterioration. Furniture and pillows can stay outside.

A Japanese outdoor cover comes in a kit with all the parts needed for installation. This type of patio cover features a bearing beam. A bearing beam supports the front end of the patio roof, allowing it to extend further than the deck it sits on. This is why the cover can now keep rain away from the railing and the wooden deck, protecting them from deterioration.

The upstairs deck cover in this project has a curved outer edge. This curve increases protection just enough to provide more shade and better rain protection. If the curve does not fit your decor but you like the extra protection, you can also have a bearing beam patio cover with a straight edge. See TFMA-Covers.
